Life Groups

The church is not just what happens on Sunday — it's what happens in living rooms, around kitchen tables, and in the everyday rhythms of life together. Life Groups are where real discipleship happens.

What Are Life Groups?

Life Groups are the heartbeat of pastoral care and discipleship at Kingdom Church Cambridge. They are small, intimate gatherings of up to 15 people who meet regularly in close proximity to where they live — in homes, community spaces, or wherever life happens.

Think of them as the New Testament church in action. In the book of Acts, believers didn't just gather in the temple — they met "from house to house" (Acts 2:46), breaking bread, praying, and building one another up in the faith. Life Groups carry this same spirit.

Every Life Group is led by a trained Life Group Pastor — a mature, equipped leader who shepherds the group, provides pastoral care, facilitates discipleship, and ensures that no one falls through the cracks. Your Life Group Pastor is your first point of contact for any pastoral need, prayer request, or personal challenge you may face.

Our conviction: No one should walk alone. In a growing church, it's possible for people to get lost in the crowd. Life Groups make sure that never happens at KCC. Every member is known, cared for, and accountable.

The Vision Behind Life Groups

Life Groups are not just Bible study groups — they are discipleship engines and launching pads for Kingdom purpose. Our vision is threefold:

🌱

Build Disciples

Every believer grows into maturity through intimate community, accountability, and consistent teaching. Life Groups are where head knowledge becomes lived-out faith.

🚀

Launch Leaders

Life Groups are a training ground for future pastors, leaders, and church planters. As you grow, you are equipped to lead others — and eventually to lead your own group or even plant a church.

🌍

Multiply the Kingdom

Through multiplication, every Life Group has the potential to become a new church. This is our strategy for reaching every corner of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, and beyond.

This model is inspired by the extraordinary fruit seen in churches around the world that have prioritised cell-based ministry. When the church operates not just as a Sunday gathering but as a network of Spirit-filled, mission-focused communities throughout the week — explosive growth follows.

At KCC, we believe Life Groups are not just a programme — they are the primary vehicle through which we will grow the church, raise leaders, plant new churches, and ultimately see Cambridge and Cambridgeshire saturated with the Gospel.

How Life Groups Work

Life Groups are designed to be simple, reproducible, and deeply relational. Here's how they function:

📍 Organised by Location

Life Groups are formed based on geographical proximity. We want your Life Group to be close to where you live — making it easy to attend, easy to build genuine friendships, and easy to serve your local community together. When you become a KCC member, you'll be connected to the Life Group nearest to you.

👥 Maximum of 15 People

Life Groups are capped at 15 members. This ensures that every person is truly known, every voice is heard, and every pastoral need is noticed. Intimacy requires intentional smallness. When a group reaches 15, it's time to multiply.

📅 Regular Gatherings

Life Groups meet weekly or fortnightly (as determined by the Life Group Pastor in consultation with the group). Meetings are typically held in homes and last around 60–90 minutes. They are informal, warm, and Spirit-led.

Fellowship & Connection

Time to check in, catch up, and genuinely connect as family. Share testimonies, joys, and challenges.

📖

The Word

Discussion and application of Scripture — often building on the Sunday sermon or working through a study. This is where truth is personalised and applied.

🙏

Prayer & Ministry

Praying for one another, laying hands on the sick, prophetic encouragement, and intercession. The Holy Spirit moves powerfully in small settings.

🎯

Accountability & Mission

Checking in on personal goals, spiritual disciplines, and Kingdom assignments. Discussing how the group can serve and reach their local community.

The Multiplication Model

Life Groups are designed to grow and multiply. This is not a static programme — it's a living, breathing organism that reproduces by design. Here's how multiplication works:

The Growth Cycle

1 Group forms
15 Group is full
5 Members launch out
2 Groups now exist

When a Life Group reaches 15 people, 5 members — including a trained emerging leader — break off to form a new Life Group. Both groups then grow back to 15, and the cycle continues. This is how we grow the church organically, raise leaders continuously, and ensure pastoral care remains intimate and effective.

This multiplication model means that every Life Group member is on a journey. Some will be nurtured as new believers. Some will grow into mature disciples. Some will emerge as leaders. And some will ultimately be sent out to start new groups, lead new communities, or even plant new churches.

Our strategy for church planting: We actively encourage Life Group Pastors to aspire towards planting churches. As a Life Group Pastor matures and their group multiplies, they may sense God's call to take their people and plant a new congregation — whether in another part of Cambridge, another city, or another nation. KCC is a sending church, and Life Groups are the launchpad.

Life Group Pastors

Life Group Pastors are not just facilitators — they are shepherds. They carry genuine pastoral responsibility for the people in their group. At KCC, we take this role extremely seriously, which is why every Life Group Pastor is trained to a high standard.

🎓 Trained & Equipped

Every Life Group Pastor completes dedicated pastoral training through KCC University — covering pastoral care, biblical counselling, conflict resolution, discipleship methods, and spiritual leadership.

🛡️ Accountable & Covered

Life Group Pastors are not lone rangers. They operate under the authority and covering of KCC's senior leadership, meeting regularly for support, debriefing, and ongoing development.

🤝 First Point of Contact

When a member faces a pastoral need — whether spiritual, emotional, or practical — their Life Group Pastor is the first person they reach out to. This ensures rapid, personal, and informed care.

🚀 Future Church Planters

Leading a Life Group is practical, hands-on training for future pastoral ministry. We encourage Life Group Pastors to dream big — including planting churches when the time is right.

A Training Ground for Future Pastors

At KCC, we believe that pastoral ministry is best learned by doing. Life Groups provide a real, living context where emerging leaders learn to shepherd people, navigate challenges, teach the Word, pray for the sick, manage group dynamics, and cast vision — all under the mentorship and covering of experienced leaders.

If you sense a call to pastoral ministry or church planting, the Life Group pathway is designed to develop and test that calling in a practical, accountable environment. Many of tomorrow's church planters will be today's Life Group Pastors.

Your Commitment as a Life Group Member

Being part of a Life Group is a core requirement of KCC membership. It's not optional — it's how we ensure every member receives proper pastoral care, discipleship, and community. Here's what we ask of you:

✅ Attend Consistently

Your Life Group works best when everyone is present. Make your group a priority. Consistent attendance builds trust, deepens relationships, and creates the environment for real growth.

✅ Be Open & Vulnerable

Life Groups only work if people are real. We're not asking for perfection — we're asking for honesty. Share your struggles, celebrate your victories, and allow others to speak into your life.

✅ Serve & Contribute

Don't just attend — participate. Pray for your group members during the week. Offer practical help when someone is in need. Be the kind of member you'd want in your group.

✅ Grow & Be Accountable

Allow your Life Group Pastor and fellow members to hold you accountable in your walk with Christ. Be teachable. Be willing to be stretched. The goal is Christlikeness — and that requires community.

✅ Embrace Multiplication

When the time comes to multiply, embrace it with faith. Sending members out to form new groups is not loss — it's Kingdom gain. Be willing to go where God sends you.

How to Join a Life Group

Joining a Life Group is part of the KCC membership journey. Here's how it works:

For New Members

When you complete the membership process and your Orientation Course, you'll be connected to the Life Group nearest to your home. You'll be introduced to your Life Group Pastor, given the meeting details, and welcomed into the group. It's that simple.

For Existing Members

If you've moved address or need to transfer to a different Life Group, speak to your current Life Group Pastor or contact the church office and we'll get you sorted.

Coming soon: We're developing an online portal where members can enter their home address and instantly see which Life Group is in their vicinity, who the Life Group Pastor is, and join directly. Watch this space!

No One Walks Alone

Life Groups are where you'll be known, loved, challenged, and launched. If you're ready to be part of a community that goes deeper than Sunday — we're ready for you.
